THE WEDDING DAY:
Our wedding day was a whole production, literally! We combined our love of TV, film, and theatre into an interactive comedy show.
Instead of a traditional ceremony, our wedding party performed a show for our guests. There was live music, dancing dinosaurs, improv scenes, sketch comedy, and even a cake eating contest.
Our biggest priority for our wedding day was to create an experience where guests could feel like they were truly part of our day instead of just watching the wedding take place.
It was a very unconventional and chaotic day but it was 100% us. It gave us the warm and fuzzies to hear guests say they’d never forget our wedding.

HAIR / MAKE UP:
N/A, I did my own hair and makeup.
I asked a make-up savvy co-worker to teach me how to do my wedding makeup in exchange for a bottle of wine! She showed me how to do everything using products I already owned.
I also taught myself how to do my hair via YouTube tutorials. Throughout the year leading up to the wedding I made sure to practice doing my hair and makeup for various events just to see how it would hold up!

.
DID YOU DO FOOD: We had an Italian lunch reception!
BRIDESMAIDS: We asked the bridesmaids to wear any dress they felt beautiful in as long as it was white!
GROOMSMEN: For the men we told them they could wear any paisley tie and vest they wanted. One groomsmen ordered a vest online and out of convenience, the other groomsmen asked him for the link and ended up all ordering the same one. So the groomsmen were actually way more matchy than the bridesmaids!

ANY TIPS ON GUESTS, FAMILY:
If you’re largely paying for the wedding yourself and your family insists on inviting certain guests that weren’t on your initial list, ask your family if they’d be willing to help out by paying for that person’s meal.
Also, using the phrase “We don’t have the budget for that” is a great way to fend off any pushy family members who try to guilt you into spending money on things you don’t want.
Finally, don’t feel guilty about saying no to Plus 1s. Our rule was that unless a guest was engaged, married, traveling from far away, or we knew their plus 1 personally, they would not receive a plus 1.
ANY AWESOME BUDGET SAVING IDEAS:
My whole instagram documents the ways we saved money. A large part of that was the fact that we chose to buck a LOT of wedding traditions because they didn’t resonate with us. You’d be surprised at how a lot of these “wedding must-haves” are actually not necessary at all . Put your budget towards the things that feel right to you as a couple, not what some chart on Pinterest tells you!
.
.
ANY TIPS ON GIFT IDEAS: We asked for money in lieu of physical gifts. We used a website called Honeyfund.
DID YOU DO WEDDING FAVOURS: Several wedding planners I follow online say that wedding favours are a HUGE waste of money. Guests will often forget them or just throw them away. I definitely recommend food as favors like cookies, candies, etc.
TIPS FOR FUTURE BADASS BRIDES:
Put down the wedding magazines and exit out of Pinterest for a second.
Ask yourself what you and your partner really want for your wedding.
Is this something you want to have or if this something that society/your family is pressuring you to have?
Finally, things are never going to go as planned but I promise you none of it will matter. As long as you get to kiss the love of your life at the end of the day, then it was a pretty perfect wedding!
