A Star War’s – Star Trek

Wedding to Remember

HAPPY COUPLE: Stacey & Adam Dangerbeard

WEDDING DATE: 04/08/2019

WEDDING LOCATION: SOHO @ Jones Bay Wharf

HOW DID YOU MEET:

Adam: Honestly? We met on tinder! It may not sound that romantic, but it’s 2020. We quickly learned we were looking for the same things, had the same dorky sense of humour and love of all things nerdy.
Stacey:  We’re one of those cheesy stories where we pretty much knew from the start that there was something special here.

WEDDING THEME: Star Wars + Star Trek

THE WEDDING DAY: We wanted to make the day about us. That’s kinda the point, right? Since we’re both huge nerds – I’m the Star Wars one and she’s the Star Trek one, I thought it’d be fun to incorporate some of that into our wedding photos so we didn’t end up with the same old boring poses. I really wanted to try and kick as many boring wedding traditions as possible! So I found a klingon bat’leth on etsy made by a guy in Poland, Star Trek phasers for the bridesmaids, Star Wars stormtrooper blasters for the groomsmen, and I already had my own custom lightsaber because… huge nerd. The main reason we went with our photographer Darren Wigley was that so much of his previous work was fun nerdy shoots, which in itself was inspiration for me to think about how we could add more fun to our own!

WEDDING FOOD:

Adam: I can’t even remember. We definitely had three desserts each, though, because it’s our damn wedding! And since then, that’s been our “thing” for when we go out for special occasions. Triple dessert!

Stacey: Doltone house have award winning food so we put a lot of trust in their recommendations. The menu was one of the easiest parts of the wedding to arrange.

BUDGET SAVING IDEAS:

Adam: Stace made her own hairpieces!

Stacey: Yeah! I couldn’t find anything I really loved that suited the style I was after and compliment the dress so I decided – how hard could it be? Got into the YouTube tutorials, bought some supplies and made my own Swarovski Crystal, pearl and sterling silver hairpieces!

TIPS FOR FUTURE BADASS BRIDES:

Adam: The key thing for me at all stages of planning was to remember one thing: it’s a day about US. We get to choose whatever the hell we want to do. Silly wedding traditions? Throw ‘em out the window! Do what you want! Also:

Make sure the food is good. That’s all your guests are gonna remember.
Do not cheap out on your photographer.

Other than you two, they’re the next most important person at your wedding. You get what you pay for. The day goes by in a flash and you’re likely to forget a hundred lovely moments that a good photographer will have captured for you to keep.

Stacey:  Don’t let people pressure you or influence your day. As Adam said, we really considered what we valued and enjoyed and planned to that. It wasn’t a staged event, it was a gathering of the most important people in our lives to spend time in our version of paradise for a while. If it wasn’t what others would have done, who cares? Their memories fade, yours last forever.

EXTRA INFO:

My bestie Jim read a passage from the classic Star Trek: The Next Generation season 5 episode “Darmok and Jalad” in Klingon. It’s about people coming together. We thought it was funny.
