WHERE DID YOU MEET:
We met on a dating website back in 2008! We got chatting and first met up in January 2009. We were in a long distance relationship for 8 years (only seeing each other on weekends) Then Luke got a job here in Wrexham and he moved in with me and my 2 children in 2017.
In April 2019 it was our 10 year anniversary & Luke surprised me with a trip away to Luxembourg. This is where he decided to ask me to marry him. We had been walking around and taking in the sights all day when we walked passed an old gothic church. It was stunning- with cherry blossoms overlooking us he pulled out the most stunning engagement ring – a sliver and Whitby Jet ring with a single diamond.

WEDDING STYLE: Autumnal Rockabilly
THE WEDDING DAY:
We got married at The Woodman Inn, a lovely pub in a little hamlet in West Yorkshire. We wanted somewhere relaxed that reflected our love for the country. Luke is a proud Yorkshire man so getting married in Yorkshire was a must.
We decided we wanted to wake up with each other on the morning of the wedding, we had breakfast together and throughout the morning Luke was popping in and out of the room while I was getting ready. There’s a picture of Luke ready in his outfit as I’m still getting my hair done and he kisses me on the cheek, he said “see you up there doll”.
I walked down the aisle to meet Luke with my mum while Chris Stapleton “you are my sunshine” was playing.
.
.
We then had our family photos and couple shots done in the grounds of the Inn. The color of the trees are just incredible!
By this point we were all starving and the food was a welcome sight! We had created a playlist of 1940s music to accompany the food and speeches.
We decided we wanted 2 first dances! Our first one was “It’s Been a Long, Long Time” by Harry James and Helen Forrest. The lyrics just spoke to us, we both waited a long time to be together, and this song just said everything we needed it to. Our second dance was “We’re Crazy” by Danko Jones. We are both big rock/metal music fans so it only felt right to have a heavier song to dance to too.
We hired a rockabilly band to play and they got everyone up and dancing, don’t think I sat down all evening!
The whole day was just incredible. A year on and I still find myself daydreaming and remembering the most incredible day of my life.

BRIDESMAIDS – GROOMSMEN:
I had decided that I only wanted my daughter as bridesmaid. I have 2 amazing friends that I wanted to enjoy the day without stress. My daughter wore a 50s style dress from Lindy Bop.
The groomsmen all wore white shirts, burnt orange ties and jeans.
BUDGET SAVING IDEAS:
We made all the wedding decorations our selves. Lots of alcohol bottles with fairy lights (had lots of fun emptying them!!) a piece of log cut from our own garden with gold spray-painted L & F, vintage teapots and other vessels with wheat and lavender and a glass terrarium from Ikea for the cards.
We sourced vintage glass bowls from charity shops all over Wrexham for the sweet table, vintage tea cups from charity shops for table decorations which I then used oasis, wheat, lavender and other dried flowers to decorate. All dried flowers were purchased from ebay. I don’t like to throw anything away, and I’m so glad! We had a huge box full of clean empty jars in the garage. Armed with a glue gun, some hessian and a metal leaf embellishment I made over 30 candle holders for the tables.

We did grow a few pumpkins in our little kitchen garden but not enough to decorate the venue so we purchased the rest from Morrisons. We also had a few random photo frames with quotes from our fave Halloween couples.
The wedding cake was made by Luke’s Grandma and decorated by his Mum. I made my daughter’s bouquet with flowers from Ikea! My bouquet was £12 from Etsy. It really was a DIY wedding.

.
WEDDING FAVOURS: We had favours that doubled as place cards. Luke’s mum made the little bags and we added bee friendly flowers seeds. My mum then wrote everyone’s name on the tags. On the back we printed stickers which said “Bee Loved” sprinkle the seeds & watch them grow, Luke & Ffion 31st October 2019.
TIPS FOR FUTURE BADASS BRIDES:
It is your day! Don’t get sucked into other peoples ideas and traditions (if that’s not what you want)
For your guests its one day, but you will look back on this day for the rest of your life. It needs to reflect you and your partner.
