THE WEDDING DAY:
We always knew it had to be this date. My dad passed away when I was 15. The date we got married on was my dads birthday. When we all got the news about covid-19 at the start of the year, we thought our wedding was months away so we would be fine. Months down the line and it still wasn’t any clearer if we could actually go ahead with the wedding we had planned. We talked a lot about postponing until next year, but none of the dates next year really meant anything to us. And what about the reception and meal we had planned? Who did we cut from the guest list? What about the DJ? Cake?
We finally decided that we weren’t going to let this awful virus take anything else away from us or our family. So we buckled down. We booked the most beautiful registry office that was close to home. We were allowed 12 guests so we invited our closest family, with one best friend each to be by our sides.

I got ready in a beautiful hotel suite with the mums and my maid of honour. Andrew got ready at home with our two handsome boys, his dad and best man.
I always knew I wanted to do my own make up. My friend did my hair – my dream hair – I felt like a mermaid! There was music and Prosecco and so much laughter. My brother got me a beautiful pin to wear (which was my something blue!) that said “hug from dad” and that was such a special moment that day. My wonderful photographer was there to capture every moment. As soon as I saw Marie’s work, I knew she was the one. She kept us laughing and we bonded over our love for Fleetwood Mac!
When I arrived at the registry office, I finally got to see my gorgeous kiddos! My eldest told me I looked beautiful. My son, my best friend, walked me down the aisle that day and I will always remember the pride and love I felt and also the pang of sadness that my dad wasn’t there.

Our ceremony was so full of love and happiness. I could tell that Andrew was nervous so I took his hand and felt him instantly relax. My brother did a beautiful reading and Andrew read the lyrics to All I ask of you from Phantom of the Opera – we both love musicals! All our guests we spaced out and wore the matching black masks we provided. There was tears of joy, and absolute pure relief and gratitude that we had finally gotten to this point, after all the trials and tribulations that 2020 has brought to so many couples.
We had some amazing socially distant photos taken outside the registry office on a set of stone stairs. Our guests had their masks on and we wanted to pay homage to the current pandemic! One of my favourite photos is our guests all pointing to their masks!

We said goodbye to our guests and took a short walk to the nearby community garden. I had a gorgeous bouquet of faux flowers made by a brilliant lady called Adeela, she managed to get me black roses – which I have been dreaming of since I was a teenage emo kid! We stopped on the way there by this blank white wall and tried to do our version of the Rumours album cover!! Marie completely understood our vision of how we wanted our photos to look. I struggle with seeing photos of myself that other people have taken, but Marie captured the most beautiful side of me – happy!

BUDGET SAVING IDEAS:
We didn’t go to a bridal wedding dress shop or suit shop! I ordered my beautiful skirt off Etsy, and my top was from Boohoo! My husbands suit jacket (and best mans) were from amazon, paired with black jeans. Both of us wore black Dr Martens which we owned already!
